A friend of mine has asked me to enlighten him on the possibility of keeping dogs, either as pets or for security purposes (guard dogs, drug/arms sniffers, police/military dogs etc).
I have searched the QURAN for answers but till this morning have not found any reference made to it. I have not managed to peruse the Hadiths yet.
Can those learned friends out there tell me the “nas” on keeping dogs and where these rulings/references are made in the QURAN and/or Hadiths so that I can advise my friend. I want to be able to guide him properly and not based on heresay or beliefs that are not substantiated by the QURAN and/or Hadiths.
I like dogs. I was in the same predicament. Since I could not find any ruling in the Book of Wisdom, the Ahsanul Hadis, against the creature ( or any other creature except swine for that matter) i maintain that stand. So I had a dog which I adopted from a Dog Home.
Hygiene is major issue though. Bathing, cleaning the dog shit, are major chores. You need to take it for daily walks too. They are like dependent grown ups. Imagine having someone who need that kind of help. I guess that is the main reason for the many “rulings” against it. off course there must have existed ruling for the culling of dogs and banning its breeding during outbreaks of anjing gila.
They are wonderful creature. Keep it if you have someone who tends to its need and keep it clean. That is still in my wish list, a well groomed, clean dog. My job is just take it for a walk in the park.
